Abstract
The program began in 2012 and is implemented by International Resources Group (IRG) with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The program's primary focus is on enhancing the livelihoods of rural communities through sustainable land management, biodiversity conservation, and improved access to credit and markets. Agricultural productivity and market access are key areas of focus for the program. In the millet/sorghum and maize value chains, the program has implemented interventions to improve crop yields and market access for smallholder farmers. The program has also focused on the rice value chain, with a focus on improving irrigation systems and market access for farmers. In addition, the program has worked to promote forestry and agroforestry products, with a focus on sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation. The program has also made significant progress in improving access to credit for smallholder farmers. The program has worked with financial institutions to develop microfinance products and services that cater to the needs of rural farmers. Additionally, the program has implemented initiatives to improve access to markets for smallholder farmers, including the development of market gardens and the promotion of artisanal fisheries.
