Abstract
The DAIA indicators, among others, are used to compare estimated, allocated, and executed funds for the purchase of contraceptives. The ESP-Finance tracking tool is a tool used to monitor financing for the purchase of contraceptives in all countries. The data collected through the DAIA indicators and the ESP-Finance tracking tool show a significant gap between estimated and allocated funds for the purchase of contraceptives in several countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. For example, in El Salvador, the estimated funds for the purchase of contraceptives in 2014 were $2 million, while the allocated funds were $1.5 million, and the executed funds were $1 million. In Guatemala, the estimated funds for the purchase of contraceptives in 2014 were $3.5 million, while the allocated funds were $3 million, and the executed funds were $2.5 million. The data also shows a trend of increasing desabastecimiento (stockout) of contraceptives in several countries in the region. For example, in Honduras, the desabastecimiento of contraceptives increased from 0 in 2010 to 3 million in 2014. In Nicaragua, the desabastecimiento of contraceptives increased from 0 in 2010 to 2.5 million in 2014. In Paraguay, the desabastecimiento of contraceptives increased from 0 in 2010 to 1.4 million in 2014. In the Dominican Republic, the desabastecimiento of contraceptives increased from 0 in 2010 to 1.6 million in 2014. The data collected through the DAIA indicators and the ESP-Finance tracking tool highlights the need for increased financing for the purchase of contraceptives in several countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The data also shows a trend of increasing desabastecimiento of contraceptives in several countries in the region, which highlights the need for improved supply chain management and logistics to ensure the availability of contraceptives in the region.
