Abstract
The project is a collaborative effort between Save the Children and its partners, CORE Group, Food for the Hungry, Mercy Corps, and TANGO International, with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project's overall outcome is to produce a strong body of evidence on how to measure and strengthen resilience, with a strategic objective of identifying, generating, adapting, and sharing high-quality information, knowledge, and best practices for improved methodologies in resilience program design, measurement, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The project's framework is built upon four main intermediate results: Knowledge Capture, Knowledge Generation, Knowledge Application, and Knowledge Sharing. Knowledge Capture involves collecting and analyzing data, while Knowledge Generation involves synthesizing and producing high-quality information in user-friendly formats. Knowledge Application focuses on using effective capacity building approaches, and Knowledge Sharing supports and expands information, skills, and knowledge exchange. During the reporting period, September 2, 2016 to December 31, 2016, significant progress was made in achieving the project's intermediate results. TANGO conducted a resilience analysis using an existing national dataset for Malawi in partnership with the USAID GeoCenter, Center for Resilience, and Malawi Mission. The analysis was completed, and a draft presentation and brief report were developed, with a heavy emphasis on the implications of the findings. The report and presentation are being refined and finalized. Additionally, TANGO conducted a deep dive into the Pastoralist Areas Resilience Improvement through Market Expansion (PRIME) program's Recurrent Monitoring Survey (RMS) data to inform the upcoming PRIME redesign. The deep dive used four methods: growth regressions, positive deviant analysis, descriptive and regression analyses of households' coping strategies, and cluster analysis. The capacity that is most consistently associated with households' ability to recover from the drought was identified, and future programming recommendations for the PRIME project were developed. The project's implementation challenges were also addressed during the reporting period. The consortium members worked together to address the growing demand for technical guidance on resilience concepts, analysis, measurement, and knowledge management related to food security. The consortium produced evaluations, practical guidance pieces, trainings, and other field support, and strategic analysis related to resilience. The project's geographic focus is on vulnerable communities in various countries, including Malawi. The project's timeframes are from September 2, 2016 to September 1, 2021, with a reporting period of September 2, 2016 to December 31, 2016. The project's recommendations and findings will be shared with key stakeholders, including USAID, to inform future resilience programming and policy decisions.
