Abstract
The program's primary focus was on strengthening the research capacity of Philippine universities and fostering partnerships between academia, industry, and government. STRIDE's activities were divided into three missions: Mission 1, Mission 2, and Mission 3. Mission 1 focused on enhancing the research capacity of Philippine universities through faculty externships, career centers, innovation workshops, curriculum review, and knowledge and technology transfer offices. The program also established a Philippine Government-University-Industry Research Roundtable (PGUIRR) to facilitate collaboration among stakeholders. Mission 2 concentrated on providing scholarships and research grants to support the development of research capacity in Philippine universities. The program offered Professional Science Master Scholarships, PhD/Research Scholarships, and research grants to support collaborative research projects between US and Philippine universities. Additionally, the program provided training and capacity development support to host-country tertiary education institutions. Mission 3 focused on innovation and technology transfer, with a particular emphasis on developing innovation white papers and establishing innovation and technology support offices (ITSOs). The program also aimed to improve national STI policy and enhance the capacity of the Commission on Higher Education. Throughout the year, STRIDE achieved significant milestones in its various activities. The program supported the development of research capacity in Philippine universities, fostered partnerships between academia, industry, and government, and promoted innovation and technology transfer. The program's achievements were reflected in the performance indicators, which showed improvements in areas such as STI R&D grant income, training completed in formal science or science-related training courses, and the number of scientific studies published or conference presentations given. The program's geographic focus was on the Philippines, with a particular emphasis on strengthening the research capacity of Philippine universities and fostering partnerships between academia, industry, and government. The program's timeframes were from 2013 to 2018, with the current report covering the period from August 30, 2017, to June 30, 2018.
