Abstract
The program's work has yielded significant results, exceeding expectations for indicators related to sales, employment, and capacity building. A notable achievement during this reporting period was the sale of manchiche for USD 330,000, which will be used to restore a pedestrian bridge in Oakland, USA. This sale represents a significant opportunity to showcase the quality of Guatemalan wood production. Additionally, a market has been established in the United States for small-diameter wood from plantations. The program has also strengthened business undertakings, such as bicycle tours to extend visitor stays at the Yaxhá National Park. The application of technology to enhance natural resource management continues to gain momentum, with the use of drones for forest monitoring and control in Petén, and the incorporation of a mobile app to hasten the processing of forest incentive records. The CNCG has collaborated closely with the National Council for Protected Areas (CONAP), resulting in the approval of a "road map" for the extension of forestry concessions in the Maya Biosphere Reserve (MBR). This has led to a review and update of the Regulations of Forestry Concessions (Normativo de Concesiones Forestales). Capacity building remains a key focus of the program, with over 100 young people from local communities receiving technical assistance in forest management. The program has also worked to strengthen the capacity of the National Forestry Institute (INAB) technicians, incorporating a mobile app to streamline their work. Implementation of the program's work plan for 2018-19 has made significant progress, with key achievements in the areas of sales, employment, and capacity building. The program's work has had a positive impact on the communities and ecosystems of Guatemala, and its continued efforts are expected to yield further benefits.
