Abstract
The program is part of the regional PREPARE Program, which has activities in Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, and El Salvador. The program goal is to facilitate the incorporation of risk management and response best practices, strategies, and tools into public policy and planning processes. The program has the following objectives: Objective 1, to facilitate the incorporation of risk management and response best practices, strategies, and tools into public policy and planning processes. This objective falls under the Risk Management Policy and Practice Sector and the Policy and Planning Sub-Sector. The program has a total budget of $1,500,000 and is implemented by Miyamoto International over a 24-month period in Mexico City and Zapopan, Mexico. During the reporting period, October 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023, the program carried out several activities. A conference on Disaster Risk Awareness and Disaster Risk Reduction was held in the auditorium of the Zapopan Police Station, in which 65 people participated. The College of Architects and Urban Planners of Guadalajara registered the Miyamoto International Rapid Damage Assessment course with the Directorate of Professions of the State of Jalisco, making it officially validated and available for delivery in educational, governmental, and private institutions. The Miyamoto Mexico team participated in the 3rd mapping workshop in Medellin, Colombia, from October 10-14, 2022, and presented the program's debris management methodology. The program team conducted a field visit and held meetings with the authorities of the Secretariat of Risk Management and Civil Protection of Mexico City to review the GIRSobrereRuedas project, which the PREPARE Mexico program supported with the provision of donated supplies. To continue strengthening institutions and professionals in disaster management, the program conducted a training on Rapid Damage Assessments (RDA) for buildings damaged by earthquakes, at the College of Architects and Urban Planners of the state of Jalisco. A total of 79 professionals participated in person and virtually. A Training for Trainers course on Rapid Damage Assessments (RDA) of buildings affected by earthquakes was also held at the College of Architects and Urban Planners of the State of Jalisco, with 31 professionals participating in the course. Both the regular RDA Course and the TOT course will be officially certified by the College of Architects and Urban Planners of the state of Jalisco, guaranteeing that the work done by the PREPARE program will continue to be implemented and have impact beyond the life of the program. The program has made significant progress in achieving its objectives, including the registration of the Rapid Damage Assessment course and the training of professionals in disaster management. The program's activities have been carried out in collaboration with various institutions, including the College of Architects and Urban Planners of Guadalajara, the Secretariat of Risk Management and Civil Protection of Mexico City, and the municipality of Zapopan. The program has also received support from the University Center for Industrial Technical Education (CETI) and the coordination of civil protection and firefighters of the municipality of Zapopan. The program's progress is measured through various indicators, including the number of institutions participating in discussions, the population by municipality, and the program's indicators by sub-sector. The program's overall performance is satisfactory, with significant progress made in achieving its objectives.
