Abstract
The initiative involved the digitalization of Guías de Transporte Forestal (GTF) documents, which are essential for the forestry sector. The digitalization process was carried out by a consultant, Gladys Lizenka Villacorta Linares, who was contracted by the Gerencia Regional Forestal y de Fauna Silvestre (GERFFS) to develop a specialized service for digitalizing GTF documents and processing them in the System of Documentary Management of the Forest Management of the Coronel Portillo Sede of the GERFFS. The digitalization process involved the identification and examination of the state of the documents to be digitalized. The consultant found that some documents were in poor condition, with torn, dirty, and illegible pages, which made the digitalization process challenging. Additionally, the consultant identified missing documentation, such as lists of logs, origin guides, and other documents, in many of the GTFs. The digitalization process resulted in the digitalization of 10,001 GTFs, comprising 9,538 GTFs for maderable products and 463 GTFs for sub-products and non-wood products. The digitalization process was carried out between January and August 2020, with the highest number of GTFs digitalized in January and July, and the lowest number in May due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The registration of GTFs in the System of Registration of Forest and Wildlife Information was also carried out, but was hindered by a virus attack on the server that stored the digitalized documents. As a result, the registration process was delayed by three weeks. Despite this, the consultant was able to register 1,300 GTFs while the system was operational. The digitalization and registration of GTFs aimed to strengthen the transparency and accountability of the forestry sector in Peru. The initiative also aimed to improve the management of forest resources and to promote sustainable forest management practices. The digitalization of GTFs will also facilitate the monitoring and evaluation of forest management activities, and will provide a more accurate and reliable record of forest transactions.
