Abstract
The program, supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is implemented by John Snow, Inc. (JSI) in partnership with the Population Council and the Center for Development Services (CDS). The program's primary objective is to address Egypt's rapid population growth by reducing the unmet need for family planning (FP) counseling services and methods. To achieve this objective, SEFPP works with the Government of Egypt (GOE) to provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP)/FP Sector and the National Population Council (NPC). The program's implementation partners are the MOHP/FP Sector and NPC, which conduct all SEFPP activities. Due to government restrictions on conducting primary research, the SEFPP team modified the Program Year (PY) 2 annual work plan (AWP) to use available secondary data and published research. The program's revised PY2 AWP highlighted the plan for developing the FP health management information system (HMIS)/logistics management information system (LMIS). SEFPP conducted a workshop to gather input from MOHP's potential systems users on their desired functionalities and revised the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the development of the HMIS/LMIS. The RFP was posted on the JSI and Wuzzuf websites, and the evaluation of received proposals is expected to be finalized in October 2019. SEFPP also conducted three workshops to explore the possibility of introducing new FP methods to the MOHP/FP Sector's method mix. MOHP/FP Sector staff from the procurement and pharmacy central departments and the FP directors of Fayoum, Sharkeya, and Assuit governorates attended the workshops. The final workshop recommendations will inform the MOHP/FP Sector's decision on introducing new FP methods. The program's geographic coverage includes Aswan, Luxor, Qena, Sohag, Assiut, Minya, Beni Suef, Fayoum, Giza, and slum areas in Cairo and Alexandria. The reporting period for this annual report is October 1, 2018, to September 30, 2019. SEFPP's activities are focused on supporting quality family planning/reproductive health services (FP/RH) and enhancing selected health behaviors. The program's objectives are to increase evidence-based planning, decision making, and policy formulation, including contraceptive security, in Egypt. SEFPP works with the GOE to address the country's rapid population growth by reducing the unmet need for FP counseling services and methods. The program's implementation partners are the MOHP/FP Sector and NPC, which conduct all SEFPP activities. The revised PY2 AWP highlights the plan for developing the FP HMIS/LMIS and conducting workshops to explore the possibility of introducing new FP methods to the MOHP/FP Sector's method mix. The program's geographic coverage includes Aswan, Luxor, Qena, Sohag, Assiut, Minya, Beni Suef, Fayoum, Giza, and slum areas in Cairo and Alexandria.
