Abstract
The project aims to develop and promote ecotourism in the region, with a focus on increasing private sector participation and improving market access for local communities. The project is sponsored by USAID/Rwanda, Office of Economic Growth, and is implemented by DAI. The project's objectives include developing tourism products through increased private sector participation, improving marketing and promotion of Nyungwe among targeted segments, and improving integration of communities and the ecotourism value chain. The project also aims to improve the policy and enabling environment for ecotourism and enhance the capacity of the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and private sector for ecotourism planning and management. Progress has been made in achieving these objectives. The project has developed tourism products, including hiking trails, birdwatching, and cultural experiences. Marketing and promotion efforts have been improved, with a focus on targeting high-end tourists. The project has also improved the integration of communities and the ecotourism value chain, with a focus on increasing benefits to local communities. The project has also made progress in improving the policy and enabling environment for ecotourism. The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has been strengthened, and the private sector has been capacitated for ecotourism planning and management. The project has also improved environmental compliance, with a focus on reducing the impact of tourism on the environment. In addition, the project has made progress in integrating women into Nyungwe Nziza activities. Training has been conducted for women in areas such as ecotourism and entrepreneurship.
