Abstract
The program was supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Pro Public. The program's objective was to bring together members of both ex-combatants and community people to foster collaboration and promote long-term peace in the communities. The program involved organizing 28 peace events between September 2016 and May 2017, which included peace rallies, cultural programs, speech competitions, interactions, sports activities, and the establishment of revolving funds. These events were designed to repair the images of ex-combatants and promote social and cultural harmony in society. The activities were carried out in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including Local Peace Committees, Village Development Committees, schools, business houses, and local civil society organizations. The peace events were categorized into four types: peace rallies, cultural programs, and speech competitions; sports activities among political parties, youth clubs, and school teachers and students; interaction programs to discuss the status of ex-combatants and promote social and cultural harmony; and the establishment of revolving funds to support the smooth relationship among dialogue facilitators and members of social dialogue groups beyond the project period. A total of 13,583 individuals participated in the program, with 7,550 attending peace rallies and cultural programs, 2,469 attending activities related to the establishment of revolving funds, 3,146 attending sports activities, and 418 attending interaction programs. The program's success was evident in the increased participation of community people and ex-combatants in the peace events, which helped to promote social harmony and peace in the target communities. The program's implementation involved close coordination with stakeholders, including Center Coordinators, Local Peace Committees, Village Development Committees, and local civil society organizations. The program's activities were designed to be inclusive and participatory, with a focus on promoting social and cultural harmony in society. The Combatants to Peacemakers Program's success was also evident in the establishment of revolving funds, which provided an opportunity for dialogue facilitators and members of social dialogue groups to generate income and improve their livelihoods beyond the project period. The program's innovation in establishing revolving funds was a response to requests from beneficiaries and demonstrated the program's commitment to promoting sustainable peace and social harmony in the target communities. The program's impact was also evident in the increased participation of community people and ex-combatants in the peace events, which helped to promote social harmony and peace in the target communities. The program's success was a result of the close coordination with stakeholders, inclusive and participatory approach, and the establishment of revolving funds, which provided an opportunity for dialogue facilitators and members of social dialogue groups to generate income and improve their livelihoods beyond the project period.
