Abstract
The association has 26 member companies that engage in various activities, including increasing competitiveness, strengthening market access, informing members about market trends, and lobbying for industry interests. The fruit and vegetable processing industry plays a significant role in the Macedonian agribusiness sector, with a strong focus on exports. The industry has experienced growth in production and export value over the last decade, and it is labor-intensive. The industry's export orientation and labor demands make it a critical sector for the country's economic growth. The "Survey on Performances of Fruit and Vegetable Processing Industry 2011" project was conducted by MAP in collaboration with the USAID's AgBiz Program. The project aimed to provide detailed and updated information on the industry's performance, including production figures, export performances, employment, and labor demands. The survey also addressed the impact of the global economic crisis on the domestic processing industry. The project methodology consisted of five phases: preparatory work, desk research, field research, collating and analysis, and report writing. The project team collected existing information, developed a database of fruit and vegetable processors, conducted desk research, and collected data through field research. The data was then analyzed and compiled into a comprehensive report. The report provides an overview of the industry's performance in 2011, including production figures, export performances, employment, and labor demands. The report also highlights the industry's strengths and weaknesses, as well as its potential for growth and development. The findings and conclusions of the report are presented in a comprehensive and detailed manner, providing valuable insights for stakeholders, policymakers, and industry professionals. The industry's production figures show a steady increase over the last decade, with a significant growth in export value. The report highlights the industry's reliance on raw materials, with a focus on purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables. The industry's production capacity is utilized to produce a range of processed products, including canned fruits and vegetables, juices, and frozen products. The report also examines the industry's employment and labor demands, highlighting the importance of seasonal labor. The industry's labor demands are met through a combination of full-time and seasonal employees, with a focus on hiring local labor. The report highlights the industry's commitment to food safety and quality, with a focus on implementing best practices and adhering to international standards. The report's findings and conclusions provide valuable insights for stakeholders, policymakers, and industry professionals. The report highlights the industry's potential for growth and development, as well as its challenges and weaknesses. The report's recommendations provide a roadmap for the industry's future development, including strategies for increasing competitiveness, improving market access, and enhancing food safety and quality. Overall, the "Survey on Performances of Fruit and Vegetable Processing Industry 2011" project provides a comprehensive and detailed overview of the industry's performance in 2011. The report's findings and conclusions provide valuable insights for stakeholders, policymakers, and industry professionals, highlighting the industry's potential for growth and development, as well as its challenges and weaknesses.
