Abstract
The programme is aligned with the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) and aims to support the development of emergent literacy skills in young children. The programme consists of several components, including story packs, teacher's guides, workbooks, and parent meeting guides. The story packs are a key component of the programme, featuring a series of engaging stories that are designed to promote oral language and emergent literacy skills in children. Each story pack includes a teacher's guide, a big book, puppets, and sequence pictures that help to bring the story to life. The stories are carefully selected to be relevant and engaging for young children, and are designed to be used in conjunction with a range of activities and exercises that promote language and literacy development. The teacher's guides provide a framework for teachers to use the story packs in the classroom, including outlines for activities, exercises, and assessments. The guides are designed to be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of different teachers and classrooms. The workbooks are designed to be used in teacher training courses to deepen emergent literacy content knowledge and strengthen classroom practice and parent engagement. The programme places a strong emphasis on parent engagement and includes a teacher's guide for parent meetings. This guide provides outlines for six meetings where teachers can support parents to expand their children's language and literacy skills at home. The programme is designed to be used in conjunction with other educational resources and is intended to support the development of emergent literacy skills in young children. The programme has been developed in collaboration with a range of stakeholders, including teachers, education officials, and community organizations. The programme has received funding and support from a number of donors, including the DG Murray Trust, USAID, the ELMA Foundation, and JP Morgan. The programme is designed to be used in a range of educational settings, including schools and early childhood development centres. The programme is based on a number of key principles, including the importance of creating a safe and supportive learning environment, the need for explicit teaching of language and literacy skills, and the importance of parent engagement and community involvement. The programme is designed to be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of different teachers, classrooms, and communities. The programme has been piloted and tested in a number of schools and early childhood development centres, with positive results. The programme has been shown to improve language and literacy skills in young children, and to support the development of a love of reading and learning. The programme is designed to be a valuable resource for teachers, parents, and community members who are committed to supporting the development of emergent literacy skills in young children.
