Abstract
The project focuses on improving farm management equipment to increase crop production, thereby increasing farmer productivity and income, and reducing Togo's food imports. The project's intended beneficiaries are smallholder farm families living in two areas of Togo. The project is designed to increase crop production through the improvement of farm management equipment. This includes the procurement of equipment and draft animals, with a credit of $342,000 made available to farmers in the project zone. The project also includes the establishment of an evaluation program to assess progress toward attainment of the project's objectives, identify and evaluate problem areas, and assess the overall development impact of the project. The project authorization includes a waiver to permit the procurement of vehicles and motorcycles from A.I.D. Geographic Code 935 (Special Free World) in an amount of approximately $165,000. This waiver is necessary due to special circumstances, as the exclusion of procurement of these commodities from Free World Countries other than the Cooperating Country and countries included in A.I.D. Geographic Code 941 would seriously impede the attainment of U.S. foreign policy objectives and objectives of the foreign assistance program. The project will be implemented in two areas of Togo, with a focus on improving farm management equipment and increasing crop production. The project's evaluation program will assess progress toward attainment of the project's objectives, identify and evaluate problem areas, and assess the overall development impact of the project. The project's intended beneficiaries are smallholder farm families living in the project zone, who will benefit from increased crop production and improved farm management equipment. The project's implementation schedule includes the procurement of equipment and draft animals, as well as the establishment of an evaluation program. The project's evaluation program will assess progress toward attainment of the project's objectives, identify and evaluate problem areas, and assess the overall development impact of the project. The project's implementation will be carried out in accordance with the project authorization and the terms and conditions of the grant agreement. The project's estimated costs are $3,000,000, with a local currency cost of $1,600,000. The project's funding source is the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), with a grant of $3,000,000 and a loan of $1,600,000. The project's estimated completion date is not specified, but the project's implementation schedule includes a timeline for the procurement of equipment and draft animals, as well as the establishment of an evaluation program.
