Abstract
A total of seven companies attended the event, which is the most important international trade show for the MAP sector. The participating firms were partially supported by the USAID Serbia Agribusiness Project, with organizational assistance from the Serbian national association "Dr. Jovan Tucakov." The trade show, attended by over 8,000 participants from nearly 80 countries, provided a platform for the Serbian companies to demonstrate their high-quality raw materials to foreign buyers. The participating companies achieved considerable success, signing contracts worth more than $400,000. As of October 2009, these companies had already supplied over $200,000 of product to their new customers, with additional export sales under negotiation. The experience gained from participating in the Vitafoods fair highlighted the importance of maintaining high-quality products and using up-to-date packaging, marketing, and promotional materials. In response, the participating firms are redesigning their packaging and promotional materials and adopting new technology to ensure quality standards. This shift in focus is expected to enhance the competitiveness of Serbian MAP products in the global market. The success of the Serbian delegation at the Vitafoods fair also underscored the need for a representative organization to handle the interests of member firms. Based on this experience, the companies involved plan to transform the "Dr. Jovan Tucakov" association into a more technical assistance agency. This new organization will focus on addressing commercial and regulatory issues in the industry and will receive support from the USAID Serbia Agribusiness Project. The new association will become the successor organization once the project has ended. The participation of the Serbian MAP processing firms in the Vitafoods trade show has paved the way for increased exports from Serbia. The success of this initiative is expected to have a lasting impact on the country's agribusiness sector, with potential benefits extending to other industries as well. The establishment of a national association to support the interests of MAP processing firms will play a crucial role in promoting the sector's growth and development.
