Abstract
The training was hosted by the partner organization URDO and attended by 20 Master Trainers from various organizations, including CARAVAN, CPD, ACE, URDO, and STEP. The participants were divided into two groups, with 13 males and 3 females. The objective of the training was to equip the Master Trainers with the necessary skills and knowledge to train the Election Day Observers. The training covered various topics, including an introduction to FAFEN and its organizational objectives, a brief introduction to the Elections Act 2017, the structure of a polling station, and the roles and responsibilities of election staff. The training also included mock training sessions by the Master Trainers and the use of the Grants Management Information System. The training evaluation results showed that the participants found the training to be overall good, with 94% of participants scoring the training as good. The activities and exercises helped the participants in learning, with 94% of participants agreeing. The handbook and content were also found to be useful, with 93% of participants scoring it as useful. The trainers, Khurram Badar and Zubair Ambia, were evaluated by the participants, who scored them highly on various parameters, including their knowledge of the subject, facilitation skills, and ability to involve all participants. The average percentage of trainers scored by the participants was 96% for Khurram Badar and 95% for Zubair Ambia. The training was part of a larger effort by FAFEN to observe the polling process for the general elections 2018. The organization had planned to conduct election-day-observation through a team of 19,000 Election Day Observers, and the training of Master Trainers was a crucial step in preparing them for this task. The training was designed to be a cascading model, where the Master Trainers would train the Election Day Observers at the district and constituency levels. The training of Master Trainers was one of the key interventions planned by FAFEN to ensure the success of the election-day-observation program. The organization had identified 250 Master Trainers from its partner organizations, who were divided into 12 groups of around 20 participants. The training was held in various locations across the country, including Quetta, Lahore, Multan, Karachi, Sukkur, and Hyderabad. The training of Master Trainers was a critical step in preparing the Election Day Observers for the general elections 2018. The training equipped the Master Trainers with the necessary skills and knowledge to train the Election Day Observers, who would play a crucial role in observing the polling process and ensuring the integrity of the elections.
