Abstract
The training aimed to equip Master Trainers with the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct effective training sessions for Election Day Observers. A cascading training model was devised, where a team of TDEA-FAFEN lead trainers developed training materials and tasked Master Trainers to conduct trainings at the district and constituency levels. The training sessions for Master Trainers were held in various locations across the country, including Quetta, Peshawar, Lahore, Multan, Karachi, Sukkur, and Hyderabad. The training in Multan, hosted by Pattan Development Organization, was conducted on July 7-8, 2018, and attended by 21 participants, including 7 female participants and 14 male participants. The training covered various topics, including an introduction to FAFEN and its organizational objectives, the Elections Act 2017, the structure of a polling station, roles and responsibilities of election staff, types of ballot, and the process at polling stations. The training evaluation results showed that the participants found the training to be overall good, with 85% of participants scoring 4 or 5 out of 5. The activities and exercises helped participants learn, with 90% of participants scoring 4 or 5 out of 5. The handbook and content were found to be useful, with 85% of participants scoring 4 or 5 out of 5. The trainers, Akram Khurram and Asif Shehzad, were evaluated by the participants, with an average score of 85% for Trainer 1 and 80% for Trainer 2. The pre and post-test results showed that the participants had a significant improvement in their knowledge and understanding of the topics covered during the training. The average percentage improvement in the post-test scores was 45.45%. The participants also found the training to be effective in improving their knowledge and skills, with 90% of participants scoring 4 or 5 out of 5. The training of Master Trainers was an essential step in preparing Election Day Observers for the general elections 2018. The training aimed to equip Master Trainers with the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct effective training sessions for Election Day Observers. The training evaluation results showed that the training was effective in improving the knowledge and skills of the participants, and the trainers were well-prepared and effective in conducting the training sessions.
