Abstract
The project is valued at $18.8 million and aims to support the Burmese government and non-government champions in advancing key economic reforms and institutional innovations. The primary objective of TIGA is to increase transparency and generate inclusive growth, thereby reducing poverty and inequality in Burma. The project focuses on three main intervention areas: Economic Reforms, Natural Resource Management, and Infrastructure. In the Economic Reforms area, TIGA is working to build foundations for local property taxation, evolve subnational economic governance, and support the rationalization of state-owned economic enterprises. Additionally, the project is promoting trade facilitation and border trade, protecting intellectual property rights, and preparing conflict-sensitive analysis and interventions. In the Natural Resource Management area, TIGA is strengthening the Myanmar Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), advancing the development of a responsible gemstone sector, and strengthening regulatory frameworks for mining. The project is also working to improve the transparency and accountability of the extractive industries sector. In the Infrastructure area, TIGA is developing a feasibility study and master plan for a Yangon seaport, supporting sound project evaluation and public-private partnership (PPP) processes, and extending access to electricity. The project is also working to improve the transparency and accountability of the infrastructure sector. TIGA is being implemented by Nathan Associates Inc. under contract number 7200AA18DOOO14, task order number 72048219F00001.
