Abstract
CTEN was launched at the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit and is coordinated by Power Africa and Prosper Africa. The network aims to close $350 million of new clean energy deals over the next five years. CTEN focuses on clean technologies such as distributed generation, long-duration energy storage, smart grids, and small hydro. The network connects U.S. and African clean tech energy companies to market opportunities and introduces U.S. clean tech energy firms to specific deal opportunities in African markets. CTEN also promotes direct investment in African clean tech and offers a range of on-demand services to U.S. clean tech energy companies and African counterparts. These services include market intelligence, conferences and trade events, and transaction support. Market intelligence services help identify trade leads, business opportunities, and clients, as well as introduce leads to U.S. clean tech energy firms. Conferences and trade events are coordinated to facilitate participation in sector-specific conferences in Africa and the U.S., as well as to arrange trade missions and virtual events. Transaction support services introduce businesses to relevant U.S. government agencies and departments, and promote the U.S. interagency's available tools for financing, expertise, and promotion to African opportunities. CTEN is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in support of the U.S. Government's Power Africa Initiative. Power Africa is a U.S. Government-led partnership that brings together the collective resources of over 200 public and private sector partners to double access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative aims to add at least 30,000 MW and 60 million connections by 2030.
