Abstract
The project is funded under USAID Contract No. AID-OAA-I-15-0004 and is implemented by Chemonics International in collaboration with various partners. The project's goal is to ensure uninterrupted supplies of health commodities to save lives and create a healthier future for all. GHSC-PSM procured malaria commodities valued at more than $134 million for 30 countries in Fiscal Year 2019. The value of GHSC-PSM procurements of specific malaria product categories is shown in Exhibit 1. The project continues to contribute to the U.S. President's Malaria Initiative (PMI) efforts to improve global malaria commodity market health. GHSC-PSM conducted market health assessments for all products to identify opportunities for market-shaping interventions and focused on supporting market dynamics recommendations in the strategic sourcing process. Strategic sourcing gains were achieved through the implementation of a new sourcing strategy that awards suppliers with market share commensurate with the value provided to GHSC-PSM and improves the health of the RDT market. The project issued a request for proposals for the supply of long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLINs), including an option to provide vendor-managed inventory services. This new solicitation responds to fundamental changes in the market for suppliers, product appropriateness, and demand for next-generation products. GHSC-PSM provided supply chain systems strengthening for malaria commodities in 22 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and the Greater Mekong sub-region of Southeast Asia. The project's efforts contribute to the goals of the PMI to reduce malaria deaths and substantially decrease malaria morbidity, toward the long-term goal of elimination. GHSC-PSM procured malaria commodities for 30 countries and provided supply chain systems strengthening for malaria commodities in 22 countries. The project's procurement efforts focused on improving the availability of health commodities, particularly malaria commodities. GHSC-PSM procured malaria commodities valued at more than $134 million for 30 countries in Fiscal Year 2019. The project's strategic sourcing efforts aimed to improve the health of the RDT market and the LLIN market. GHSC-PSM issued a request for proposals for the supply of LLINs, including an option to provide vendor-managed inventory services. GHSC-PSM's efforts to improve the availability of health commodities and strengthen supply chain systems contribute to the goals of the PMI to reduce malaria deaths and substantially decrease malaria morbidity. The project's procurement efforts and strategic sourcing initiatives aim to improve the health of the RDT market and the LLIN market, ultimately contributing to the long-term goal of malaria elimination.
