Abstract
The program's activities are focused on supporting the efforts of Uzbekistan to develop its legal framework, enhance the legal profession, and improve the legal operating environment. Significant transformations have taken place in Uzbek society over the last several years, with changes liberalizing social and political life while respecting human rights and freedoms affecting all aspects of sociopolitical and economic life. The Government of Uzbekistan has issued several regulations directly related to LRP's support to national partners, including resolutions and decrees on measures to support women, social partnership, and international cooperation, as well as the provision of public services and state social assistance. The LRP has been working closely with national partners to support the implementation of these regulations. For example, the program has been providing training and capacity-building activities for judges, prosecutors, and other legal professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills in areas such as alternative dispute resolution, intellectual property, and commercial law. The program has also been working with civil society organizations to support their efforts to promote human rights, access to justice, and the rule of law. One of the key objectives of the LRP is to support the development of the legal profession in Uzbekistan. To achieve this objective, the program has been working with the Higher School of Judges to establish a training program for judges, as well as with the Lawyers' Training Center to provide training for lawyers. The program has also been working with the Legislation and Parliamentary Research Institute to support the development of legislation and parliamentary research. The LRP has also been working to improve the legal operating environment for non-governmental and civil society organizations in Uzbekistan. To achieve this objective, the program has been working with the Civic Initiatives Support Center to provide support to civil society organizations, as well as with the Family and Women's Committee to promote the rights of women and children. The program has also been working with the Ministry of Justice to support the development of a legal framework that is conducive to the activities of non-governmental and civil society organizations. In terms of specific achievements, the LRP has made significant progress in the first quarter of FY 2024. For example, the program has completed a training program for judges on alternative dispute resolution, and has provided training for lawyers on commercial law. The program has also completed a study on the legal framework for non-governmental and civil society organizations, and has provided support to civil society organizations to promote their activities. Overall, the LRP has made significant progress in the first quarter of FY 2024, and is well-positioned to continue its work in the coming months. The program's activities are focused on supporting the efforts of Uzbekistan to develop its legal framework, enhance the legal profession, and improve the legal operating environment for non-governmental and civil society organizations.
