The USAID Rural Water Supply Activity (RWS) aims to improve access to safe drinking water in rural Tajikistan.

Abstract
The activity targets three objectives: increasing access to safely managed drinking water, establishing reliable and commercially viable drinking water services, and increasing community engagement in oversight and accountability. RWS has made significant progress in the past quarter, with key achievements including the inauguration of a rehabilitated and expanded rural water supply system in Sumchak village, serving 650 households. The activity has also completed engineering design for the engineering design for Palos and updating of engineering design for Soicha. Additionally, the Anti-Monopoly Agency has approved water tariffs for water operators in Chorbogh and Sumchak. The activity has also implemented a billing and customer database system for the Chorbogh water operator, with customer agreements signed with all connected households. Institutionalization of Sumchak RDWS has been achieved, with a service agreement signed between Kholvato municipality and the water operator. Technical training has been provided to ten target water operators in Sughd, and introductory trainings have been conducted for district and jamoat representatives of the second group of target sites. Information sessions on rational water use and safe storage have been conducted among rural residents, and six performances have been held to present drinking water supply issues from a gender perspective. A writing contest has been held among schoolchildren on the topic "Clean Water - Family." The activity has also made progress in establishing reliable and commercially viable drinking water services, with the completion of a PPP feasibility study for Palos. The activity has also implemented a billing and customer database system for the Chorbogh water operator. The activity has also increased community engagement in oversight and accountability, with the institutionalization of Sumchak RDWS and the signing of a service agreement between Kholvato municipality and the water operator. The activity has also provided technical training to ten target water operators in Sughd.
