Abstract
The program empowers citizens across various contexts and populations, advancing peace and stability, facilitating dialogue through locally led solutions, enabling civic participation, and increasing access to information. USAID Shejeh Salam systematically integrates gender, youth, and marginalized communities within all activities, working with local actors who best know the needs of their communities. The program's field activities focus on developing trustworthy news and media production and dissemination, with a focus on reaching remote and vulnerable parts of the country. USAID Shejeh Salam has implemented 150 grants throughout its life, including a rapid response grant mechanism designed to serve the rapidly changing environment of a fragile country in transition. The program has supported micro entrepreneurship activities, trauma awareness workshops, and town hall meetings to promote peaceful solutions on a communal level. USAID Shejeh Salam's approach to its Rolling Assessment is to be as interactive as possible, allowing for a free flow of ideas and feedback. The program has conducted 292 peacebuilding activities to date, reaching 47,842 people, 35% of whom are women. During years one and two of operations, USAID Shejeh Salam exceeded its targets, and is currently halfway to its year three targets. The program's staff skills development and well-being are paramount, with a focus on team strengthening and personal well-being. The Rolling Assessment workshop included skill building trainings, staff wellness and stress management coaching, and social activities to promote team building and communication. The program's new chief of party, the formation of a new Grants Compliance and Communications department, and internal promotions of key personnel are also highlighted. USAID Shejeh Salam's programming highlights include the Panyijar-Lake's peace dialogue, the Kelangboor-Topesa peace dialogue, the National Youth Forum, the commemoration of 16 Days of Activism and International Women's Day, and the official handover of several key community and traditional leadership structures. The program's support to micro entrepreneurship activities, trauma awareness workshops, and town hall meetings has proven effective in promoting peaceful solutions on a communal level. The program's monitoring and evaluation view shows that USAID Shejeh Salam is exceeding in its key indicators, with a focus on developing trustworthy news and media production and dissemination. The program's systematic integration of gender, youth, and marginalized communities within all activities has been effective in reaching remote and vulnerable parts of the country.
