Abstract
The Ajira Portal was designed to make the recruitment process fully functional and to develop a mobile version. As a result, government entities gained increased autonomy to recruit public servants. Prior to the implementation of the Ajira Portal, the recruitment process relied on an outdated manual system. This process was costly, time-consuming, and prone to errors. Applicants had no way to track the status of their application or receive constructive feedback on why they did not qualify for certain positions. The manual system also required physical presence of PO-PSRS representatives for quality control and verification during recruitment. The Ajira Portal has significantly improved the recruitment process in Tanzania. The system allows applicants to track their application progress and receive feedback on why they were not selected for a position. Moab Apendae Thobias, an Assistant Nursing Officer II at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma region, was able to track his application progress and receive feedback through the Ajira Portal. He received a job offer after applying through the system, whereas he had not received any job offers through the manual system. The Ajira Portal has also enabled the recruitment process to be completed online, reducing the need for physical presence of PO-PSRS representatives. Mwanaisha Mchomvu, a Senior Human Resource Officer at the PO-PSRS, stated that the system allows them to process 200 to 250 applications a day, compared to sorting through more than 50 applications a day using the manual system. The automation of the recruitment system has ensured that the most qualified people are hired for government posts, freeing up time for government HR staff to work on additional tasks. The implementation of the Ajira Portal has resulted in a more efficient and cost-effective recruitment process. The system has enabled the government of Tanzania to fill vacancies more quickly and to provide critical services to communities. The recruitment process timeline has been significantly reduced, with the Ajira Portal allowing the recruitment process to be completed in a shorter period of time compared to the old manual system.
