Abstract
Achieving gender equity is a key strategic direction for USPCAS-W and for the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) in general. The Gender Equity Plan (GEP) provides policy guidance and specific actions to promote equity among employees and students. The GEP aims to promote an organizational culture that gives women and men equal opportunities for working and learning. A highly professional and country-level leading center for advanced studies in water must adopt an active policy of equality between women and men, and a recruiting and admission policy that results in diversity and ensures equal rights. The plan sets specific objectives, including ensuring a 50% share of women in recruitment, faculty, and non-faculty positions, and achieving better gender balance in all study programs of MUET. The University of Utah will support and build the capacity of USPCAS-W at MUET to achieve the above objectives. The support includes preparing an action plan on policy recommendations, designing and implementing recruitment programs, commenting on recruitment and admissions announcements, developing a framework for a women's support center at USPCAS-W, and devising a plan to acquire scholarship funds. The GEP is aligned with USAID's policy on gender, which strives to promote gender equality and ensure that both men and women have equal opportunities to benefit from and contribute to economic, social, cultural, and political development. MUET takes the lead in adopting a gender equity policy among public sector universities, with the policy stand approved by the MUET Syndicate. The policy objectives include increasing the share of women in faculty and non-faculty positions, achieving better gender balance for study programs of USPCASW and MUET Jamshoro, and ensuring that gender equity is understood and effectively implemented as a management priority. The GEP plan outputs include increasing the share of women in faculty and non-faculty positions, achieving better gender balance for study programs of USPCASW and MUET Jamshoro, and ensuring that gender equity is understood and effectively implemented as a management priority. The plan also aims to establish institutions and policies that make gender equity a well-understood and effectively implemented management priority.
