Abstract
The tool is developed by the RMP Plus program of Management Sciences for Health with support from USAID. It is an embedded program running on Microsoft Access and can be installed on a computer with Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating system and Microsoft Office 2000 or 2003. The tool is designed to enable Provincial Pharmaceutical Departments and their ARV/OI Treatment and Care service delivery site partners to place orders, track inventory, and plan, monitor, and account for the proper distribution and site-level as well as client/patient-level use of drugs and related commodities. The tool also provides reports and analyses of data and forecasts to stakeholders. To use the tool, users must first install it by placing all files in a dedicated folder, C:\ARVDatabase_1.2Vietnam. Additionally, users must install the Vietnamese Keyboard (Vietkey or Unikey) to enter patient names in Vietnamese language. The tool can be launched in three ways: by clicking on the "my computer" icon, by using the "RUN" task, or by double-clicking on the shortcut on the desktop. Once launched, the tool requires users to enter their ID and password to access the program. The main menu of the program is divided into three parts: patient management, drug management, and options and settings. The tool provides various functions, including entering new patient records, dispensing ARV medications, updating stock movement records, and viewing daily dispensing reports. The tool also provides a tutorial on how to enter patient names in Vietnamese language using the Telex typing or VNI typing method. The tutorial explains the use of the Vietnamese keyboard and provides examples of typing rules for entering patient names in Vietnamese language. In terms of security, the tool requires users to enter their ID and password to access the program. The tool also provides an exit function that allows users to save any changes made before quitting the program.
