Abstract
ANERA will use A.I.D. funds to make subgrants to 18 cooperatives and other local entities as detailed below. Four agricultural cooperatives (Halhul, Dura, Jenin, and Nablus Regional,) will purchase heavy machinery to reclaim farmland. The Hebron/Bethlehem and the Jericho regional plant nursery cooperatives will supply, respectively, olive and stone-fruit seedlings and advanced tomato, eggplant, and pepper seedlings to area farmers. Village electrification cooperatives in Hebron, Dura, and Nablus will provide daytime electric power as the basis for industrialization. The Jalazon bakery cooperative will modernize an existing bakery to produce a larger quantity and higher quality of bread. The Ein Sinyeh olive oil cooperative will buy a modern bottling unit and develop a sound grading and quality control unit. The Jenin regional agricultural marketing cooperative will address farmers" export problems by constructing a variety of marketing facilities. The Hebron Union of University Graduates and the Ramallah Municipal Institute of Technology will build post-high school, 2-year polytechnic institutes. Finally, Gaza Municipality will build an artifical lake and channels to conserve rainwater, and the Hebron Patient"s Friend Society will build and equip a 200-bed hospital.
