Abstract
This is the result of the first experience of students from normal schools carrying out a learning process of the Mayan language and culture through technology. The title of the collection, "Xu'matoj viyol unq'a ixi'm naje'", conveys the message of motivation for the new generation to revive interest and love for literature, and above all, to internalize the teachings transmitted in each of the stories. It is recognized that oral tradition is a source of information and knowledge. Its content is used by our grandparents essentially for education and formation of the new generation, from immemorial times. In this sense, oral tradition should have applications within the educational system of the school, as it provides content for all school subjects; it can also be a learning axis and a link between the community and the school. This work is the result of the work of students from the Magisterio career, who collected stories from elderly people from their communities using recorders, digital cameras, and video cameras. Subsequently, they recreated the narratives in a version of children's stories, digitizing texts and scanning the original illustrations. The "Enlace Quiche"/USAID Project, in the process of improving education in rural society in the department, within the pedagogical model with technology that it implements, created this space for the future teacher to develop experience in recreating oral tradition in a didactic resource; with the aim of strengthening their formation as a new bilingual teacher, who should replicate their teaching within the new vision of a multilingual and pluricultural society. The stories collected in this collection are a source of wisdom and knowledge, transmitted by our grandparents to their families, children, and even grandchildren. If we listen carefully, these stories contain wise teachings. By analyzing each story carefully, it implies a lesson, an exhortation that we should apply to our daily lives within our families. For this reason, teachers and students of the Institute Mixto Diversificado Ixil -IMDI- have taken on the task of collecting and documenting some stories obtained through interviews with our elderly, some of which are included in this small book of stories, and in this way, contribute to the knowledge of those wise teachings, making them known to our pre-primary school children, to whom this material is especially dedicated. The stories in this collection are a window into the culture and traditions of the Mayan communities in Guatemala. They are a testament to the rich oral tradition of these communities, which has been passed down from generation to generation. The stories are a mix of adventure, magic, and wisdom, and they offer a glimpse into the daily lives of the people who live in these communities. The collection "Xu'matoj viyol unq'a ixi'm naje'" is a valuable resource for anyone interested in learning about the Mayan culture and traditions. It is a unique opportunity to experience the richness and diversity of Mayan literature and to learn about the values and customs of these communities. The stories in this collection are a reflection of the Mayan people's connection to their land, their ancestors, and their traditions. They are a testament to the importance of preserving and passing down cultural heritage from one generation to the next.
