Abstract
She married at a young age and became pregnant with her first child, Carmen Yesenia, shortly after. Carmen grew up to be a healthy child and is now three years old. Gladys's second child, Pedro, is a boy with dark hair and tanned skin. The family has since grown to include two more children, Abiezer Ignacio Chávez Ixcoy and Carmen Yesenia Chávez Larios. Gladys expresses a desire to have completed her basic education and to have worked to provide a more comfortable home for her family. The Proyecto USAID Leer y Aprender, which translates to the USAID Read and Learn Project, implemented activities to promote elements of the Modelo de Municipios Amigables a la Lectura, or the Friendly Municipalities to Reading Model. This project aimed to improve literacy rates in Guatemala. The story of Gladys Maribel Larios Tzarax and her family is part of the project's efforts to promote reading and learning in the community.
