The structures will provide water for the irrigation of rainy season staple crops as well as a means for dry season vegetable production, and will also reduce soil erosion. The principal counterpart organization will be the Yatenga Regional Development Organization (ORD). ORD will help AFRICARE mobilize selected villages to participate in construction (labor-intensive techniques will be used where possible) and food production activities and, when construction is completed, will provide extension support. The National Office of Dams and Hydrological Works will provide technical monitoring of project activities. Grant funds will finance TA, commodities (mostly heavy equipment), equipment rehabilitation, training, and some operating expenses.
