Abstract
The project focuses on four main components: Efficient Use of On-Farm Water, Enhancing Productivity of High-Value Horticulture and Dairy Products, Enhancing Processing and Marketing Capacity of the Area, and Creating an Enabling Environment for the Agricultural Sector to Grow. Component I, Efficient Use of On-Farm Water, involves the construction of primary, secondary, and tertiary level channels, as well as the realignment and formation of Water Users' Associations. The project has made significant progress in this area, with the construction of main and secondary channels, including LBC-Package 1, LBC-Package 2, RBC-Package 3, and RBC-Package 4. The project has also made progress in the construction of tertiary water courses through Water Users' Associations, installation of drip irrigation systems, and assessment studies of water resources outside the Satpara Dam. Component II, Enhancing Productivity of High-Value Horticulture and Dairy Products, focuses on enhancing the productivity of high-value horticulture and dairy products in the command area of the Satpara Dam. The project has made significant progress in this area, with the formation and registration of Farmer Enterprise Groups, training of members of the FEGs, and provision of grants to FEGs for production-level activities. The project has also made progress in the import of rootstock for commercial certified fruit nurseries and orchards, provision of packaging material for FEGs, and feasibility studies of storage facilities. Component III, Enhancing Processing and Marketing Capacity of the Area, focuses on enhancing the processing and marketing capacity of the area. The project has made significant progress in this area, with the formation of men and women processor groups, provision of improved dehydration units at household level, establishment of fruit dehydration centers, and establishment of fruit processing centers. The project has also made progress in the facilitation of the establishment of fresh milk collection centers, farmers' field schools in animal husbandry, and facilitation in the establishment of yogurt processing units. Component IV, Creating an Enabling Environment for the Agricultural Sector to Grow, focuses on creating an enabling environment for the agricultural sector to grow. The project has made significant progress in this area, with the study of traditional and state rules on water rights and the identification of gaps, support activities for Local Support Organizations, and thematic conferences. The project has also made significant progress in addressing gender equity, with gender sensitization workshops, gender assessments and action planning, and gender analysis of SDP interventions. The project has also encountered challenges and problems during the reporting period, including staff recruitment and HR issues, monitoring and evaluation activities, and environmental compliance. The project has made significant progress in the first quarter of the fourth year, with a focus on the efficient use of on-farm water, enhancement of agricultural productivity, and processing and marketing capacity of the area. The project has also made significant progress in creating an enabling environment for the agricultural sector to grow and addressing gender equity.
