Abstract
The partnership aims to strengthen women's agricultural skills and access to resources within PepsiCo's supply chains to demonstrate the value of women's contributions to core business and impact goals. The partnership focuses on four countries: Colombia, India, Pakistan, and Vietnam. The GDA is working across four programmatic pillars. Pillar 1 focuses on capitalizing on PepsiCo's Demonstration Farms to showcase innovative ways to empower and support women in agricultural supply chains. Pillar 2 invests in women's empowerment solutions in agriculture, providing grants to bolster the work of women-led farmer groups and other supply chain actors. Pillar 3 influences the industry by using evidence and lessons learned to make the case for scaling investments in women to PepsiCo peer companies. Pillar 4 scales WEE within PepsiCo business units, leveraging the evidence-based business case for WEE to inform and reinforce PepsiCo's commitment and investments. In Colombia, the GDA has made progress in country planning. Based on feedback and input received during country planning sessions, the draft Colombia implementation plan, Gantt chart, and executive summary were submitted and approved on December 16, 2021. Resonance and ICRW developed theory of change slides for each region and supply chain actor, which were presented to USAID, PepsiCo's Global Sustainable Agriculture team, and PepsiCo's agronomy team in Colombia. The GDA has also made progress in staffing. Resonance recruited two coordinators to support GDA field activities in Colombia, who will lead gender equality activities and integrate activities targeting women with capacity building and regenerative agriculture practices on demonstration farms. The PepsiCo Human Resources team led recruitment efforts for two Agro Fellows in Colombia, who will provide extension support to the GDA and PepsiCo agronomy teams. In terms of partnership coordination and alignment, the Resonance team facilitated meetings related to the development and approval of the Colombia implementation plan and held calls with the PepsiCo agronomy team and the USAID/Colombia Mission to incorporate their perspectives into the overall design of the implementation plan. The GDA country manager also participated in PepsiCo's Open Day Agro, where one of PepsiCo Foundation's demonstration farms was featured, showcasing innovative irrigation methods and nutrition management models. The GDA has also made progress in monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities. The baseline study review by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) was completed, and the Activity Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Plan (AMELP) revisions were made. The GDA retreat was held, and the staffing transition was completed. Environmental compliance was ensured, and general lessons learned were documented. Success stories were also shared, and the partnership is influencing other partners through evidence and lessons learned. The GDA is making progress in its first year, with a focus on country planning, staffing, partnership coordination and alignment, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities. The partnership aims to provide evidence-based models, new on-farm approaches, and data and insights to make a practical and compelling business case for scaling investments in women's economic empowerment within PepsiCo and other global companies.
