Abstract
The event was organized by Tetra Tech ARD, Inc. under Contract No. EPP-I-00-06-00008-00, prepared for the US Agency for International Development. The regional exchange program aimed to build the region-wide early plan of action for climate change adaptation. The event brought together participants from various organizations, including the Coral Triangle Support Partnership, the CTI Interim Regional Secretariat, the Solomon Islands Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology, and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The program consisted of field visits, workshops, and sessions focused on climate change adaptation, financing, and resource management. On April 14, 2011, a courtesy call was made on the Provincial Government, followed by a forum on climate change adaptation in the Solomon Islands. The next day, an island tour was conducted to assess the impacts of climate change on the local community. The workshop proceedings began on April 18, 2011, with an opening session, followed by sessions on building the region-wide early plan of action for climate change adaptation, financing CCA activities, and linking climate change impacts to resource management. The sessions continued on April 19 and 20, 2011, with topics including CCA case studies, defining early actions for CCA, CCA tool case studies, and identifying tools for early actions. On April 21, 2011, the final session focused on capacities to implement tools/early actions, wrap-up, and next steps. The closing session was held on the same day, marking the end of the regional exchange program. The event was attended by participants from various organizations, including government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations. The event brought together experts and stakeholders to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices in climate change adaptation. The sessions and workshops provided a platform for participants to discuss and identify tools and actions necessary to address the impacts of climate change on the region. The Coral Triangle Initiative has been working closely with the Solomon Islands Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology to develop a national plan of action for climate change adaptation. The 2nd Regional Exchange on Climate Change Adaptation: Tools for Action was an important step in this process, bringing together stakeholders to discuss and identify the necessary tools and actions to address the impacts of climate change on the region.
