Abstract
ACCES is part of the SENWASH portfolio, which comprehensively addresses WASH topics in the country. The project's name translates to "Sanitation, Behavior Change, and Water for Senegal" in English. ACCES's activities for the third quarter of FY 2021, covering the period from April 1 through June 30, 2021, achieved significant progress in all four ACCES Outputs. Output 1 focused on increasing access to sanitation facilities, particularly in rural areas. Output 2 aimed to promote behavior change and improve hygiene practices among the target population. Output 3 focused on improving water supply systems, while Output 4 targeted the development of sustainable sanitation systems. The project's implementation was led by Natural Resources Consulting Engineers, Inc. (NRCE), with the support of various subcontractors and sub-awardees. The geographic focus of the project was on six regions in Senegal: Ziguinchor, Sédhiou, Kolda, Kédougou, Tambacounda, and Matam. The project's budget for the quarter was $26,775,738, with 85% of the incremental funding spent. Significant progress was achieved in the third quarter, including the training of over 2,500 farmers in sustainable agriculture techniques, the establishment of demonstration plots, and the distribution of trained masons. The project also made progress in promoting behavior change and improving hygiene practices, with a focus on women-headed households. The project's monitoring and evaluation activities were also strengthened, with a focus on tracking progress and identifying areas for improvement. The project's quarterly report highlights the achievements of the third quarter, including the completion of various activities and the progress made towards the project's objectives. The report also provides an update on the project's budget execution and procurement plan. Overall, the ACCES project has made significant progress in improving WASH conditions in Senegal, and its activities are expected to continue in the coming quarters. The project's implementation was supported by various stakeholders, including the Senegalese government, local communities, and international partners. The project's success was also attributed to the strong partnership between the project team and the local communities, which enabled the project to achieve its objectives. The project's impact was also evident in the improved WASH conditions in the target areas, with a significant reduction in open defecation and an increase in access to sanitation facilities. The project's quarterly report provides a comprehensive overview of the project's activities and progress, highlighting the achievements and challenges faced by the project team. The report also provides recommendations for the next quarter, including the need to strengthen the project's monitoring and evaluation activities and to improve the project's communication with local communities. Overall, the ACCES project has made significant progress in improving WASH conditions in Senegal, and its activities are expected to continue in the coming quarters.
