Abstract
It works alongside governments, local and international private and civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to accelerate improvements in maternal, newborn, and child health services. Building on existing evidence and experience implementing global health programs and interventions, MOMENTUM helps foster new ideas, partnerships, and approaches and strengthen the resiliency of health systems. MOMENTUM Knowledge Accelerator is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as part of the MOMENTUM suite of awards and implemented by Population Reference Bureau (PRB) with partners JSI Research and Training Institute, Inc. and Ariadne Labs under the cooperative agreement #7200AA20CA00003. The Adaptive Learning Guide is a key component of the MOMENTUM Knowledge Accelerator, providing a pathway to stronger collaboration, learning, and adapting. The Adaptive Learning Guide is designed to help users understand and implement adaptive learning, a key approach to improving project outcomes. The guide is structured into nine units, each focusing on a different aspect of adaptive learning. Unit 1 provides an overview of how to use the guide, while Unit 2 explains the concept of adaptive learning and its importance in the USAID program cycle. Unit 3 focuses on assessing strengths and gaps for adaptive learning, including understanding the purpose of starting with a readiness assessment and planning, conducting, and making use of assessment results. Unit 4 discusses modifying the environment to integrate or strengthen adaptive learning, including assessing the organizational environment and starting to modify or strengthen it for adaptive learning. Unit 5 addresses building a team primed to use adaptive learning in their work, including assessing the team's readiness to integrate adaptive learning and starting or strengthening the team's ability to integrate adaptive learning into their work. Unit 6 focuses on integrating adaptive learning into project design, implementation, and improvement, including assessing capacity and use of adaptive learning in the project cycle and strategies to start or strengthen use of adaptive learning throughout the project. Unit 7 discusses monitoring, evaluating, and learning of adaptive learning, including assessing the current capacity for MEL of adaptive learning and starting or strengthening MEL of adaptive learning. Unit 8 addresses institutionalizing adaptive learning as the norm, including assessing the level of institutionalization of adaptive learning processes and starting or strengthening the institutionalization of adaptive learning at the organization. Finally, Unit 9 focuses on communicating about adaptive learning, including learning objectives and an introduction to the topic. The Adaptive Learning Guide provides a comprehensive framework for implementing adaptive learning and improving project outcomes in maternal, newborn, and child health services.
