Grant is provided under the Improved Public Sector Environmental Services Project (18000039) in Eastern Europe to the Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) for a program to strengthen the ability of local, regional, and Republic governments in the Czech and Slovak Republics to improve environmental management.

Abstract
The project will focus on municipal governments, which are expected to assume new responsibilities with respect to water resources, solid wastes, and other aspects of environmental protection and resource management. CCAP"s program will consist of three components: policy analysis, aimed at clarifying governmental authorities in environmental management; management training for government officials; and TA. CCAP will conduct activities in all parts of the Republics, with special attention to areas where other USAID/other donor activities are underway, including activities to strengthen regional environmental management in Ostrava-Karvina, regional air quality management in northern Bohemia, and river basin management in Slovakia.
