AID cooperative agreement no. OTR-0500-A-00-0104-00 with Africare to provide support for the child survival project projects in Bolivia

Africare will train medical and paramedical personnel and support the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs" primary health care system in 14 villages within the department. Specific interventions will include diarrheal disease control (includes oral rehydration therapy education, dietary management of disease, and preventive hygiene), growth monitoring and nutrition (includes improved child feeding practices and Vitamin A food promotion through vegetable gardening), high risk birth prevention (includes training of birth attendants and promotion of birth spacing), and immunizations. Africare will: train local health facility nurses and nursing assistants, who will help train 28 community health workers within the 14 villages; train 70 neighborhood health liaisons; and install ORT units and growth monitoring equipment both in local health facilities and at the village level.
