Grant is provided under the Technical Support/Child Survival project (9380500) to World Relief Corporation (WRC) to support a maternal/child health (MCH) program in Honduras.

Abstract
The project, to be implemented in coordination with local private hospitals, will target 15,000 children aged 0-3 and 25,000 women aged 15-44 in the north-central departments of Francisco Morazan and Olancho. WRC will establish community health programs in the target regions; this will entail training a total of 340 health guardians in MCH interventions and setting up 340 community health committees. End of project targets include, inter alia: 80% of all children aged 0-1 completely immunized for six antigens; 80% of women aged 15-44 have received two doses of tetanus toxoid; 80% of mothers know how to prepare and administer oral rehydration therapy, and how to prevent acute respiratory infections through proper nutrition, immunizations, and hygiene; 50% of children aged 0-3 weighed and measured on a monthly basis; the number of mothers receiving pre-natal care increased by 100%. the number of women who understand and use birth spacing methods increased by 20%. Improving the attitudes and practices of mothers will be a key project objective.
