AID grant agreement no. 674-0301-G-SS-1052-00 to the Center for Rural Legal Studies (CRLS) in support of its efforts to safeguard and expand the rights of rural farm workers and their families and to contribute to appropriate rural jurisprudence for the `new" South Africa

The Center will: carry out legal research, and as appropriate, litigation to assist disadvantaged persons or groups in rural areas; develop solutions and legal policies to redress problems faced by farmworkers and their families; publish findings and information in order to influence both academic debate and legislative reform; help human rights groups to understand the problems, legal and others, faced by farmworkers; and strive to develop the basic principles of democracy in rural South Africa. test cases, i.e., those that will have a wide precedent-setting impact.
