Grant is provided under the PVO Support Project in Mozambique to Food for the Hungry International (FHI) to support its agricultural recovery project in Beira, Dondo, Marromeu, and Nhamatanda districts of Sofala Province.

Abstract
The two major activities are (1) providing seeds and tools to persons displaced by the conflict in Mozambique and to other seriously affected persons and (2) the training of extension workers. Seeds and tools will be distributed free initially to help recipients become less dependent on emergency food aid. Communities will be made aware that free distribution is merely a first step and that they will be expected to save seed, to market surplus crops, and to purchase their inputs when it becomes feasible to do so. A mix of staple and horticultural seeds will be distributed, based on nutritional content, community preference, and local growing conditions. The training of extension workers will be undertaken in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture. The extensionists, who are members of the communities in which they work, in addition to sharing agricultural knowledge and technologies will monitor activities and provide feedback to FHI and the MOA. Finally, short-term TA will be funded to ensure that project impacts are measured and to assess the feasibility of labor- intensive infrastructure rehabilitation programs and microenterprise or other income-generating activities.
