Public health will also be strengthened by the formation of two 3-person teams, consisting of two public health/community health education specialists and a rural sanitation/environmental engineer, who will work with various communities for several months at a time. The public health teams will be responsible for recruiting local public health, community health education, and sanitation personnel and training them in: digging and maintaining wells; constructing and maintaining latrines; disease transmission and its prevention; immunization; epidemiological record keeping; and referral resources and procedures. The public health teams will also recruit and train community health worker teams and traditional birth attendants and midwives.
