Grant is provided under the Partnerships in Health Care Project in Eastern Europe to the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) to implement two model programs to combat cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease in Czechoslovakia: (1) a secondary prevention program to identify and treat persons with manifest coronary artery disease; and (2) a community-based intervention program to examine an entire community and undertake medical, educational, and other interventions to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in both high-risk individuals and the community at large.

Abstract
The first program will be implemented at the Litomerice District Hospital north of Prague, the second in Dubec, a village east of Prague. UCSF"s Cardiovascular Research Institute will implement the programs in partnership with Stanford University"s Center for Research in Disease Prevention, the Central European Center for Health and Environment, and three medical clinics/institutes based in Prague.
