Abstract
The program aims to address the global crisis of plastic pollution in oceans by promoting sustainable solid waste management practices in urban areas. CCBO operates in seven countries and over 25 cities worldwide, focusing on developing and implementing effective waste management solutions. The program's primary objective is to reduce plastic waste and mitigate its impact on the environment. CCBO works closely with local governments, communities, and stakeholders to develop and implement sustainable waste management practices, including waste reduction, recycling, and composting. The program also emphasizes the importance of social and behavior change, education, and awareness-raising activities to promote a culture of sustainability and environmental stewardship. In the 2021 Fiscal Year, CCBO achieved significant progress in achieving its objectives. The program implemented various interventions, including the development of waste management plans, establishment of waste collection and recycling systems, and training of local communities on sustainable waste management practices. CCBO also supported the development of public-private partnerships to promote private sector engagement in waste management, and facilitated the exchange of knowledge and best practices among participating countries. In Latin America and the Caribbean, CCBO supported the development of waste management plans in several cities, including Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The program also implemented waste reduction and recycling initiatives in several cities, including Lima, Peru, and Quito, Ecuador. In Asia, CCBO supported the development of waste management plans in several cities, including Jakarta, Indonesia, and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The program also implemented waste reduction and recycling initiatives in several cities, including Manila, Philippines, and Bangkok, Thailand. CCBO's efforts have resulted in significant reductions in plastic waste and improvements in waste management practices in participating cities. The program has also contributed to the development of a network of experts and practitioners in the field of waste management, and has facilitated the exchange of knowledge and best practices among participating countries. The program's achievements in the 2021 Fiscal Year include: * Development of waste management plans in over 20 cities * Establishment of waste collection and recycling systems in over 15 cities * Training of over 5,000 community members on sustainable waste management practices * Support for the development of public-private partnerships to promote private sector engagement in waste management * Facilitation of the exchange of knowledge and best practices among participating countries Overall, CCBO's efforts have made significant contributions to the reduction of plastic waste and the improvement of waste management practices in participating cities. The program's achievements demonstrate the importance of international cooperation and collaboration in addressing the global crisis of plastic pollution in oceans.
