Abstract
The Salvation Army will implement the project, with field work to be performed by two subcontracted PVOs. The following types of services and commodities will be provided in accordance with local needs within 6 months of signing the grant agreement: (1) food distribution - the priority activity; (2) sanitation (minor repairs to water systems, establishment of temporary captation systems, construction of latrines); (3) health care (provision of health teams, where possible, and of medications, e.g., antibiotics, antiparasitics, vitamins, oral rehydration salts); (4) agriculture (provision of a beginning supply of seeds and tools and of small livestock); and (5) household and shelter (basic kitchen utensils, home improvements, material and thread for clothing manufacture and repair, and wood, nails, saws, chainsaws, and home maintenance materials). PVO field workers will give priority to widows, orphans, and families most affected by the violence. The Salvation Army will procure food commodities from the World Food Programme and the National Reconstruction Committee (NRC), roofing materials from the NRC, and limited medical services from the Gorgas Memorial Laboratory/Panama. Each community will provide the nonskilled labor needed to execute the project.
