Abstract
In IRG-controlled areas, IMC supports 9 health facilities, including 1 stabilization center, where severe acute malnutrition cases with medical complications receive advanced care. A mobile team provides nutrition and health services to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Al Dhalee. In DFA-controlled areas, IMC suspended all activities in August due to the absence of a signed project sub-agreement from SCMCHA. However, IMC continues to support 13 health facilities in this region, providing healthcare services. IMC also conducts supportive supervisory visits with the General Health Office (GHO) and District Health Office (DHO) in Al Dhalee Governorate. The health facility Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) extension to January 31, 2022, was successfully signed by the Al Dhalee Governorate Health Office. IMC reports a total of 41 suspected COVID-19 cases in IMC-supported health facilities in Al Dhalee. The organization ensures the availability of personal protective equipment (PPEs) in these facilities to curb and reduce the spread of COVID-19. As of August 29, Yemen reported a total of 7,676 confirmed cases and 1,444 deaths, resulting in a case fatality rate of 18.8% (WHO, August 2021). In IRG-controlled areas, IMC continues to support 10 nutrition sites, including 9 health facilities and 1 mobile team, with nutrition services at both health facility and community levels. Activities in DFA-controlled areas were suspended due to the absence of a signed project sub-agreement. IMC treats children 0-59 months with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) with medical complications at De Jalal stabilization center in Al Dhalee and provides outpatient therapeutic program (OTP) services to treat children 6-59 months with SAM without medical complications. IMC also reaches out to pregnant and lactating women (PLW) and caregivers with maternal, infant, and young child nutrition (MIYCN) education, hygiene, and COVID-19 messaging at all supported health facilities and at community level through community health volunteers (CHVs) and mobile health teams (MHTs) in IRG areas. IMC conducts joint supportive supervision visits with the GHO and DHO nutrition coordinators in 10 of the IMC-supported centers/facilities in Al Dhalee. In DFA-controlled areas, all field activities were suspended in August pending the approval of the sub-agreement extension. However, IMC submitted and received approval from BHA for the project design (PD) for the rehabilitation of 5 water supply systems in Taiz governorate. IMC also submitted an additional PD for the rehabilitation of 2 water supply systems in Ibb for approval. In IRG-controlled areas, IMC continues the full-scale implementation of WASH interventions, including hygiene promotion activities conducted through 40 trained CHVs. These CHVs provide hygiene promotion and awareness sessions in the community using the Wash'Em Approach. IMC monitors the installation of 16 handwashing facilities at the entrance of the 8 health facilities, with this activity expected to be finalized in the first week of September. In DFA-controlled areas, FSL activities are still suspended due to the absence of a signed SCMCHA project sub-agreement. However, the service agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MAI) and IMC is being finalized, as well as the procurement of livestock and feeds. The purchase orders (POs) will be issued once the sub-agreement has been secured. IMC plans to commence full-scale implementation of health and nutrition activities in DFA-controlled areas once the project sub-agreement extension is secured. In the south, IMC plans to facilitate childcare training, maternal care training, and psychosocial first aid (PFA) training for CHVs, health workers, and midwives. Medication will also be distributed to health facilities and CHV kits to CHVs to ensure quality of service delivery is maintained. In IRG-controlled areas, IMC will finalize the tender documentation for the rehabilitation of water supply systems and WASH infrastructure. Installation of handwashing facilities at the entrance of the health facilities will also be completed. In DFA areas, IMC will start the quarantine of the first livestock supply and sign a new contract for the procurement of livestock.
