Abstract
The project was funded by a donation of over 2 million lempiras from USAID|NEXOS and executed by the Fundación BANHCAFE. The project aimed to improve the capacity of 5 water committees to manage, administer, and operate their respective systems, optimize access to quality water for 2,896 subscribers, implement transparent mechanisms, and increase the number of families with latrines for the disposal of excreta. The project included several activities, such as revising and updating regulations with water committee members, conducting training sessions on operational planning, administration, and sustainability of water systems, and repairing water supply systems. Additionally, the project included the construction of 3 water storage tanks, installation of hypochlorators, and disinfection of water. The project also included the construction of 40 latrines. In the same region, the USAID|NEXOS program implemented a project to fortify the water service in 4 municipalities of Copán. The project was funded by a donation of 1.5 million lempiras and executed by the Organización Integral de Desarrollo de Honduras (OIDH). The project aimed to strengthen the capacities of 37 water committees, improving the availability, access, and consumption of quality water, including the installation of chlorine banks. The project included several activities, such as training sessions for water committees on administrative management and proper management of their water systems, implementation of chlorine banks, and the establishment of community water committees that influence local policies to reduce factors of vulnerability in water quality for consumption in their systems. In the education sector, the USAID|NEXOS program implemented several projects to strengthen the education service in different municipalities of Honduras. In the municipality of La Jigua, Copán, the program invested over 1.3 million lempiras in the construction of the "Mejoras y Ampliación de la Escuela Francisco Morazán y Centro Comunitario de Educación Prebásica: Estrellitas Fugaces" project. The project aimed to optimize the education service, contributing to the well-being of the community and improving the quality of life of the municipality. The project included several activities, such as the rehabilitation of the school building, the construction of a perimeter fence, the construction of a sanitary module with a water storage tank, a septic tank, and an absorption well. In the municipality of San Manuel de Colohete, Lempira, the program invested over 1 million lempiras in the reconstruction of the "Jardín de Niños Brisas del Valle" project. The project aimed to improve the educational, hygiene, and environmental conditions of the children and teachers who attend the center. The project included several activities, such as the replacement of a 10.85x8.00 meter classroom, the construction of a perimeter fence, the construction of a septic tank and absorption well, and the installation of a water storage tank. In the municipality of Candelaria, Lempira, the program invested over 1 million lempiras in the "Mejoras y Ampliación del Centro Vocacional: Instituto Técnico José María Medina" project. The project aimed to improve the pedagogical conditions of the center, favoring the teaching-learning process of the children and generating a propitious environment for them to have greater possibilities of understanding and development of their abilities. In the health sector, the USAID|NEXOS program implemented a project to construct a Maternal and Child Home in the municipality of San Marcos de Caiquín. The project aimed to improve the health conditions of over 150 families per year from the 16 communities of the municipality and people from neighboring municipalities. The project included several activities, such as the construction of the home, the installation of a water storage tank, the construction of an incinerator, and the construction of a septic tank and absorption well.
