Abstract
In Trans Mara, the World Food Programme (WFP) uplifted 202.23MT of maize belonging to the Keturo Farmers Association from Angata after a six-month delay due to heavy rains. Farmers were paid 80% of the amount before uplift, with the remaining 20% to be paid by mid-February 2012. In Kongwa, an additional 100MT of maize was bulked at the Pandambili Warehouse Receipting System (WRS) store, awaiting a prospective buyer or the upcoming WFP-P4P tender of 300MT. The total available stock of white maize at Pandambili was 203.5MT. The Cereal Growers of Kongwa (CGOK) tendered for 300MT of maize at a price of TZS 598,000/MT, but was not awarded the tender due to a higher price compared to the market price. CGOK re-tendered competitively and bid for a price of TZS 548,000/MT, with the tender results expected by mid-February 2012. The summary of joint bulking and selling during January 2012 showed that 496.85MT of maize was bulked, with 202.23MT sold to WFP, 27MT sold to local traders, and 267.77MT available in stock. The total value of maize sold was USD 101,842, with a total available stock of 561.27MT.
