Abstract
The reserve is situated in the Corregimiento El Salado, Vereda La Balastrea, at an elevation of 1330 meters above sea level. The total area of the reserve is 12.7 hectares, with 12.7 hectares to be registered. The reserve is located in a zone of influence of the subxerophytic enclave, and the present ecosystem corresponds to the Bosque Medio Seco en Montaña Fluviogravitacional. The owner of the property, Humberto Domínguez, has left patches of forest in a natural regeneration process, including forest riparian and shrublands, with species such as otobo, palms, cucharos, mamey, jigua, nogal cafetero, mortiño, higuerón, carbonero, mortiño, guadua, and arrayán. The reserve passes through the Santa Rosa stream, which supplies the Salado aqueduct. Traditionally, the property has been used for extensive cattle grazing, pastures, and hay. Currently, the reserve is used for agricultural activities such as pan coger (maize, beans, plantain, and guineo) and a small guadual for exploitation. Humberto Domínguez has expressed his interest in maintaining the reserve in natural regeneration since acquiring the property, which has generated support from the rural community due to the importance of the property's water resources. Additionally, the declaration aims to prevent activities such as armadillo hunting and the extraction of timber species. The reserve is characterized by its unique ecosystem, with a mix of forest and shrubland species. The area is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including the otobo, palms, cucharos, mamey, jigua, nogal cafetero, mortiño, higuerón, carbonero, mortiño, guadua, and arrayán. The reserve's location in the Bosque Medio Seco en Montaña Fluviogravitacional ecosystem makes it an important area for conservation.
