Subproject to support efforts of the Association des Ouevres Privees de Sante (AOPS) to work with private voluntary health institutions to implement and evaluate a comprehensive health and family planning program consistent with Haiti"s National Health Plan.

Abstract
AOPS will identify 15 private health institutions and help them design and implement community health activities reaching some 10,000 persons per institution. Health activities will include identification of the at-risk population, child growth surveillance and counseling, immunization of women and children, promotion of breastfeeding and oral rehydration therapy, detection and and treatment of endemic diseases (e.g., tuberculosis and malaria), organization of family planning services, and registering vital events. AOPS will also: (1) provide or arrange for the necessary training of community health personnel and the development and use of records systems for use in program evaluation; (2) help AOPS members and other private and mixed facilities develop community health activities; (3) organize regional seminars and workshops to promote information exchange, to discuss community health strategies, and to promote private institutional participation in the national health program; (4) provide a liaison between the Government and private health facilities; and (5) visit the majority of Haiti"s private health facilities and encourage them to develop community health programs in accordance with the National Plan.
