Abstract
The objectives of the course include refreshing participants on essential newborn care, providing an overview of the CHX cord care scale-up plan, and capacitating county, district, and facility-level stakeholders on CHX cord care. Key objectives of the course include describing and undertaking roles and responsibilities of scale management and coordination teams, training facility staff on CHX cord care, coaching and mentoring facility staff, and monitoring and using CHX data at county and facility levels. The course also aims to recognize essential components of essential newborn care, provide proper counseling skills on CHX cord care use to mothers and caregivers, and demonstrate correct application of CHX cord care. The course schedule includes a one-day county-level orientation and a two-hour facility-level orientation. The methodology used in the course includes classroom and practice on role models, pre- and post-tests, PowerPoint presentations, reading through documents, role-plays, demonstrations, and evaluations. The course participants include CHOs, DHOs, supervisors, CHDD and health promotion focal persons at county level, M&E persons at county level, partners working at the county, and hospital staff. The course expectations include following ground rules, completing a pre-test, and adhering to the course schedule. The presentation was made possible by the generous support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the terms of the Cooperative Agreement AID-OAA-A-14-00028. The contents of the presentation are the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of USAID or the United States Government. The County CHX Cord Care Orientation is designed to capacitate stakeholders at all levels on CHX cord care, with the ultimate goal of improving newborn care and reducing mortality rates in Liberia. The course is expected to provide participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement CHX cord care effectively and to monitor and evaluate its impact. The course is also expected to promote collaboration and coordination among stakeholders at county, district, and facility levels to ensure successful scale-up of CHX cord care. The course will be implemented in phases, with the first phase focusing on county-level orientation and subsequent phases focusing on facility-level orientation. The course will be conducted in a way that does not disrupt routine health facility activities. The course participants will be expected to demonstrate their understanding of CHX cord care through pre- and post-tests, role-plays, and evaluations. The County CHX Cord Care Orientation is a critical component of the CHX cord care scale-up plan in Liberia, and its successful implementation will depend on the participation and commitment of stakeholders at all levels. The course is expected to provide participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to implement CHX cord care effectively and to promote collaboration and coordination among stakeholders.
