Abstract
ABCG's mission is to bring together the best resources from across a continuum of conservation organizations to effectively and efficiently work towards a vision of an African continent where natural resources and biodiversity are securely conserved in balance with sustained human livelihoods. The Dar Vision for the Future of Biodiversity in Africa envisions a continent where environmental degradation and biodiversity loss have been significantly slowed by 2025. People and nature are adapting to climate change, and species and ecosystem services are providing a foundation for human welfare in a society committed to sustainable economic development and equitable sharing of natural resource benefits. To achieve this vision, ABCG has identified key priorities, including mainstreaming biodiversity in human well-being and development agendas, promoting good conservation practices, and partnering with social and development institutions to strengthen their role in biodiversity conservation and human well-being. ABCG focuses on several key issues, including the future of biodiversity in Africa, managing extractive industries to protect biodiversity, governance and land use/tenure, biodiversity and tropical forestry assessments, integrating food security and biodiversity, addressing global climate change, global health and biodiversity, and forecasting and building capacity on critical issues. These issues are critical to achieving the Dar Vision and require collaborative efforts among conservation organizations, governments, and local communities. ABCG's approach to addressing these issues involves collaboration, learning, and sharing. By working together, ABCG members and supporters can learn more, understand more, and do more for conservation. This collaborative approach is essential for tackling complex conservation challenges and achieving the vision of a sustainable and equitable future for Africa's natural resources and biodiversity. ABCG's efforts are guided by a commitment to sustainable economic development and equitable sharing of natural resource benefits. The organization recognizes that biodiversity conservation and human well-being are interconnected and that addressing these issues requires a holistic approach that takes into account the needs and perspectives of local communities, governments, and other stakeholders. By working together and sharing knowledge and resources, ABCG aims to make a positive impact on the future of biodiversity in Africa and to contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future for the continent.
